Bonnie and Braw is an independent production company based in Edinburgh, founded by award-winning filmmaker John McEwan-Whyte. Building on the success of projects like the Dwayne Johnson-starring feature-length documentary Ten Count and collaborations with brands like HMV, Fjällräven, and Visit Scotland, we have quickly made a name for ourselves in both unscripted and scripted content. Our work has received several accolades, including “Best Short Doc” at the Budapest International Music Festival and “Best Doc Music Video” at the Munich Music Video Awards.
In early 2025, following our success in securing a Scottish EDGE award, we expanded into animation with the launch of Bonnie and Braw Cartùns. This new division brings our uniquely Scottish voice to global audiences through both powerful documentaries and ambitious animated projects. Across our slate, we collaborate with high-profile names like Bob Harris, Hamza Yassin, Izuka Hoyle, and KT Tunstall, and partner with major brands such as the BBC, National Geographic, Sky Arts, and Aardman.
We’re also committed to growing the industry itself. That’s why we created our “Braw Voices” section, aimed at supporting early-stage filmmakers through mentorship, events like Table Reads, and our ongoing work with GMAC and other similar establishments.
In Scotland, BONNIE is beauty and BRAW is strength—
those two aspects sit at the heart of all our stories.
